here I stand

hello again, friend of a friend. my blogging style for the last two years or so has been pretty much that of an eff-boy. just when you start to get over me, I send you a winky face text to give you just enough hope to last you until the next time you've almost given up on me.
well that breakfast burrito isn't the only thing you gonna see twice, it's me. Olivia. hey how are ya.

Olivia! where have you been?!

I been right here, baby. just being lazy af. if you want constant and sometimes annoying updates on me hmu on my twitter always. also peach. it's a ~new~ social media app on the rise and I really want it to be a thing. it's pretty much all social media apps in one. it's where I go when I want to spam the Internet without losing followers. download it and add me. @ viapetty.

what have you been up to?!

adult coloring books. I don't care about the preconceived notions of how basic that is. it's fun. also I do embroidery. I party. and by party I mean mostly go to the gym in the mornings, and watch movies with Talia. and Matt. I've been desperately hurting pretty hard over Shaylee leaving on her mission. on January 6th she went into the MTC to prepare to serve in the Texas Houston east mission.

I've wept. a lot.

but I am so insanely proud of her and so inspired by her example to me.

are you going to school? do you have a job?

no. I'm living at home, I'm my moms full time caregiver. I help out here with errands, appointments, and I help pack and ship out stuff my dad sells online. so I still help bring home the bacon. I win the bread. gettin mad cheddar. making that green lettuce. I bring the whole sandwich to the table.

are you still planning to serve a mission?

yes. one thousand percent yes. and I'm finally gaining traction. I think I'm finally stable on the right mix of medications, my doctors are ready to sign off. right now I just gotta go and get some blood work done, talk to an insurance agent, and send those bad boy papers in(!).

hopefully I'll be able to keep the good news rolling in. until next time. xoxo. lazy girl.

THE PROMISE

big announcement to long time fans and everyone else in general(!) : I have made a promise. Yesterday I made a promise to myself and now to you, that before I leave to serve a mission (fingers crossed for papers in in february!) I will complete all my unfinished video projects.
stop. did you read that?
ALL. OF. MY. VIDEOS.
do you understand the magnitude of this? what this entails?! because it's a lot. this is no flippant passing remark, fam.

I have the raw footage, basic idea, and songs chosen for 10+ videos. that's more videos than I've made in the last three years combined. I have all the material I need, I just need a solid hour or two (maybe more depending on the project) of pure, motivated focus to finish them.

A few among the long lost projects are:
-a horror short titled "recovery"
-a highlight reel of my grandparents 50th anniversary
-a time lapse of me doing my makeup in the radio room and other random places from my senior year (there is over 6 hours of footage of this!)
-a highlight reel of a visit to the aquarium
-a highlight reel of my family trip to bear lake, feat. climbing the ice caves

and yes, the hotly anticipated:
-FINAL SIX INSTALLMENTS OF MY NEW YORK VLOGS

‼️
I told you this wasn't your grandmas promise. and as an added surprise, I will be finally uploading and posting all things "the classroom"! I have been told time and time again that they are already in some corner of the Internet but I have never been able to find them. So I will be doing what I should have a long time ago and uploading every thing I have.
this includes:
-5+ season 2 promos
-'making of' behind the scenes clips
and 3+ episodes, one of which directed and edited by yours truly.

SO YEAH THIS IS KIND OF A BIG DEAL. HOLD ON TO YOUR LILLY WHITE BUTTS.

THREE YEARS

here I am. me, Olivia.
three years ago today, on the first of December, I ended a relationship with this boy and it destroyed me.
last year I wrote about it, like I was a Phoenix from the ashes. but that's not entirely true. I really felt what I said about being so much better and stronger than ever on my own, but it wasn't true and I just wanted it to be so.

so here I am. admitting that it still hurts. I still cry sometimes. every once in a while he'll show up in one of my dreams. I'll run into his mom at the grocery store. a song on the radio will come on. and it still hurts. but that's okay.

it's okay. I can't quite put into words how I feel about all of it, despite my best efforts. this post-mortem revelry is tradition now. and it's a tradition that teaches me so much of who I am and who I've been.

after all of it I'm grateful. Grateful for who he was to me, and what he taught me about love and what I want out of a relationship. it helped me learn the things I'm willing to change for the person I love and the things I can't without compromising my sense of self.

so here I am. me. Olivia. I told you last year I'd be here. and I am. I'll always be here, I'll always be me. with or without a boy to hold my hand and kiss my face and tell me I'm pretty. someday soon I'd like that, and when I do, I will be a better version of myself because of what this taught me.

see you next time.

the 8:30 train of thought

I just caught a train southbound and my train is no longer the 750 to Provo, it's the 8:30 train of thought.

-I didn't pay my fare. the machine was out of order and I could see the trains headlights on the track and so I decided to take my chances and try to bum a free ride. if the attendee calls me out I'll just voluntarily pay online or something. What do they do to you if they catch you doing that anyway?

-Last night my basement flooded. there I am sitting on my couch watching Grey's Anatomy and it starts raining. on me. in my basement. I thought it was the apocalypse. Our washing machine is now dead. so earlier we had to take a trip to the laundromat. It felt very urban and made me reminiscent of my childhood.

-that makes three of our appliances out of commission. 1. the oven 2. the vacuum 3. the washer. Heavenly Father is teaching me a lot about faith  right now. actually all the time. but especially this last month.

-recent personal devastation: the boy whom I have had an adamant crush on for years, has recently entered a relationship with the girl who was his best friend.

-the day I found that out I drove up to my favorite park, laid in the grass, and cried. I watched the sunset and listened to my chill playlist. I was there for over an hour and a half. I was on a grassy hill overlooking the valley. I go to that park whenever I'm sad or need to be alone. I think it's my happy place.

-I have a tab in my phone with the weather where my family + favorite missionaries serve and it makes me feel just a little closer to them in a way.

1. Christchurch, New Zealand. Where my Nan and Gramps live.
2. Melbourne, Australia. Where my Auntie + Cousins live.
3. Cali, Columbia. Where my dearest Elder Jake Welch is currently serving.
4. Bentonville, Arkansas. Where Elder Spencer Merryweather is serving the rest of his mission. He comes home in 27 days(!). It's actually true when they say that two years just flies by.
5. Tokyo, Japan. My bffffffle Elder Zach Tolen.
6. Lima, Peru. Where Elder Tyler Edwards, my favorite and best filming colleague. we have won many awards together. we are the dream team. I used to have my weekly Tyler vines.

- At the start of the summer Matt Taylor (my ex-boyfriends younger brother whom I am still very close with and love) went to bootcamp in San Diego (pronounced Ron Burgundy Style) for the Marines. He just got back the other week. He visited the high school and popped into one of Kate's classes and he mentioned to Kate that he'd love to stop by and visit me soon because I was a big support about joining the Marines and it meant a lot to him. Just hearing that made me cry little tears and love and pride for my proxy little brother.

-Kate and Jane turned 18 and Kate finally got her drivers license. It's amazing you have no idea. Also while I was at the DMV with her we both registered to vote which I somehow neglected to do when I turned 18 and so now I feel just one step closer to functioning adulthood.

-side note to the side notes: oh my goodness the people who are just getting out of ComicCon are boarding the train. I don't know if I want to aggressively avoid eye contact or invite some to sit with me.

-I am currently taking a train home from my cousin Rachel's house because I did her hair and makeup for her Homecoming. she looks flawless I know thank you.

(makeup before brows + lips were done)

I'm so glad she's going. She's a Junior and this is her first school dance. She has been brutally bullied this year and last. A few weeks ago some hoodrats fake asked her to homecoming as a joke. that's just sick. I'm so glad she got asked for real a few days later.

-additional side note: now the girls just getting out of the Womens session of Conference are boarding the train. they are all beaming and in their Sunday dresses. the church is awesome.

It's a Saturday night and I wish you a pleasant Sabbath and a stellar next week. On me. Be good.

July 25, 2015

that's how you know

I think I'll know when I'm in love when it's actually not hard for me to just listen to them.

because I love talking. and I love talking about myself. and just talking.
and even if I really like someone a lot I have a hard time sitting still and listening to them, like really listening. the kind of listening where I'm not waiting for a moment of silence to jump in with what I want to say next.

I think I'll know when I'm really in love because they will talk and I will just let them go on and on because I actually want to hear and think about what they are saying and not what I want to say.

When I value someone's thoughts that deeply I think that's when I'll know.

screw the stars

make a wish upon a star? more like make a wish upon a me. because I'm a grown ass adult and I do what I want. screw the stars. I have a cripple and a kick ass attitude and I'm going to the happiest place on earth; and I'm not talking about waffle love (we'll still probably get waffles on the way tho).

Talia and I strike again. Only instead of going to prom we're going to Disneyland.

She and I have been through a hell of a year trying and striving to find our misplaced health in the adult world after high school. this, unsurprisingly, has not gone according to plan. I don't think the first year post-graduation ever goes exactly as you expect it, but for a handful of my friends, including Talia and I, this is especially true.

Thus we feel extremely deservant of this impromptu trip. Talia has found this year that her leg has totally gone awol and no longer wants to function properly. This has caused a lot of physical and mental pain and heartache during her year up in USU.
so when she came home to sit out for a while, we decided to make a positive out of a huge negative. because of her broken person status we're going to be able to skip all da lines. and if it weren't for that we probably wouldn't be going tbh.

I'm actually really hopeful about this trip. I feel that it's going to hit that sweet spot of eustress where I regain almost full functionality without feeling overwhelmed. and given that this is a vacation dedicated to fun and we don't have to do anything, I really think this should be a smashing success.
I'm being careful to avoid "christmas syndrome" where the stress and expectations to make everything perfect and fun ruin everything completely.

so in four days we are heading out in my '02 accord to CA.

April 21, 2015

6503 days

the day before Jonny died was Easter Sunday. Somehow we started talking about how many days we'd been alive. because we thought it was funny that we measure age in years but never bring up the days. so I looked up how many days old we were.
I was 6742 days old, he was 6502.
he died when he was 6503 days old.

a year ago today Jonny took his life, I wrote about it. Instead of feeling sorrow on this the anniversary of the day we lost him, I like to dwell on the memories I shared with him.

this was the day after his 16th birthday, july 2nd. Emilee was visiting and my grandpa always wanted to set up an arranged marriage for Jonny and Emilee (coincidentally, Emilee is now engaged). So he suggested we go on a double date, bowling like we always used to. I asked McClain to join us (coincidentally, McClain is getting married today). We had a lot of fun in the most ghetto bowling alley on earth where they sold socks in vending machines. we made up our own skittle bowling game and we were off. Jonny creamed all of us. It was his first date.

Once Jonny bought a ukulele, and for some stupid reason I thought I could teach him a few things about how to play. He was a musical genius prodigy child and after a week he was better than me. We still would play together sometimes though, our favorite song to play and sing was I'll follow you into the dark.

I posted this about a week after he died on my Instagram, with the caption:
"thinking of Jonny today. That's a semi colon above his name. A semi colon is representative for where the author could have ended the sentence, but kept writing. You're the author and the sentence is your life. Don't end it, because your story isn't over yet."

I love you, Jonny. I miss you.

March 14, 2015

like nothing ever happened

A video posted by Olivia Petty (@viapetty) on

timehop is the best and the worst app. nostalgia is a double edged sword. today however I got a bit of happiness from my 9th grade photo booth days back when white stitched jeans were the bomb. still, it also struck me as bittersweet as my freshman and sophomore year are the best years of my life to boot.

my highschool experience was the opposite of what is the average for a John Hughes-esque American teen in that the graph went the opposite way it does for most people which is kind of a bummer.

it's okay though, I should've always known that it can't all be wedding cake (spoon reference). This time period in my life is completely different than I ever expected it to be in that no scenario of my post-high school plans included staying home unemployed and not going no to school for a year with my mission papers at a stand still.

So I've had to adjust my expectations for this timeframe in my mind; this is the chapter of my life where I'm learning that God's plans and timeline for me don't always match up with what I had in mind. This is me learning that sometimes you need to have faith in Him and His timing and that it won't always match up with yours. "My ways higher than your ways". (Isaiah 55:9)
What can make it even harder is that what I want to be doing is good- I want to go out and serve Him and His children in the mission field, and then to be told to put all of that on pause and wait can be extremely trying. I thought that I had already gone through that trial back in 2010 when we applied for the Nauvoo Pageant for the first time and were denied even though I felt extremely inspired that we were meant to go. We did end up getting accepted and going the next year, and it was the most spiritually enriching experience I've ever had in my life.

They say that when that happens it can become revealed to you later why it panned out that way and why Heavenly Father had it planned differently than you expected; but it's also true that sometimes you never find out, and you just have faith that He knew what he was doing. I never did find out why we didn't get accepted the first year, but my family and i theorize that we just weren't physically and spiritually prepared to go yet, and paired with my faith, that's good enough for me.

Now here I am learning that trials aren't like the chicken pox, even if you go through it once, doesn't mean you won't have to again. I don't know why I'm not ready to serve yet, but until I am I'm preparing best that I can so that when it's time I'll be ready.

Here's to hoping that I'll have better time, and I know I will. I have faith that one day, maybe soon, I'll have a year or two that are as good or even better than my freshman and sophomore year. and that it will be a richer more divine happiness now that I am wiser and stronger through adversity.

Cheers to growth; cheers to better times ahead.

March 10, 2015

are you satisfied? (5/5)

122. Is cheating ever okay?

NEVER. EVER. ITS ONE OF THE WORST THINGS YOU CAN DO TO ANOTHER PERSON. THEY WILL SPEND THE REST OF THEIR LIFE WONDERING WHY THEY WEREN'T GOOD ENOUGH FOR YOU AND IT WILL TEAR THEM APART. but if you're talking about homework, then yeah, it may be necessary. no judgements.
123. Can you keep white shoes clean?

ahahaha no, not really. I mean I try but it doesn't usually work. I can't compare to Pam Beesley.
(Pam won the Dundie for Whitest Tennis Shoes that one time in like season 2. also sorry the quality on this one is guano.)
124. Do you believe in love at first sight?

not necessarily? (ha I'm using that phrase a lot) it's romantic in movies and books. I don't generally believe in it, but I also think it can happen. like it's not impossible.
125. Do you believe in true love?

yes totally. but I also believe that there are many people that can be your true love, like I don't believe that there is one perfect soulmate out there, as much as I wish that was true because I grew up on a steady intake of American romanticism, but the answer is yes,  I do believe in true love (:
126. Are you currently bored?

more or less. I love answering questions about myself though. I have a self fascination and am unapologetic about it. humility does not come naturally for me. working on it, working on it.
127. What makes you happy?

when my cat jumps in my lap to cuddle, when I hear my sister laugh softly in her sleep, when I have a good hair day, when my jam comes on, when I see my fish yawning, when my friends/sisters sing along with me, when I hear my dogs lapping up water, when a customer remembers my name, when there is ice cream in the freezer, when a couple I ship in my tv shows have special moments, and kneaders smoothies.
128. Would you change your name?

no, I love my name. given the chance I'd maybe change my middle name though. (from Gabrielle to Galadriel. I mean come on its right there.)
129. What is your zodiac sign?

Scorpio
130. Do you like subway?

the restaurant? I like it, but I relate to jim gaffigan bc its like their bread has been through the dishwasher.
131. Your bestfriend of the opposite sex likes you, what do you do?

I have been in this situation before. It's really hard. because you love them so much but you don't want to lead them on and then you start getting confused about your feelings and then you make things awkward and cut them off and then they stop being your best friend. so yeah. it's like the kiSS OF DEATH. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. IT HURTS WORSE THAN STEPPING ON LEGOS. REPEAT WEARING SHOES MADE OF LEGOS WOULD BE MORE FUN THAN THIS.
133. Favourite lyrics right now?

"I don't go out much at all, I've never been the type to call. I realize to be happy, maybe I need a little company. So now you know, you know it all, that I've been des-desperately alone. I haven't found the one for me, but I believe in divinity.
I found what I was looking for in myself, I found a life worth living for someone else, I never thought that I could be, that I could be happy, happy.
I believe in possibility, I believe someone's watching over me, and finally I have found a way to be happy, happy."
(okay I wrote a little more than I anticipated but it's a damned good song-  listen to happy by Marina and the diamonds on the double.)
134. Can you count to one million?

hell no
135. Dumbest lie you ever told?

hahaha I don't know, in the sixth grade I got one of my first zits and I covered it with a shot bandaid and Emilee called me out on it and I straight up denied it so hard and said that my dog bit me.
136. Do you sleep with your doors open or closed?

I thousand times prefer to sleep with my door closed, but I have to leave it open a crack in case my cats want in or out. it's better than waking up in the middle of the night if they decide they need to pee. or eat. or spite me.
137. How tall are you?

5'3" (and a half)
138. Curly or Straight hair?

ugh it's this really frustrating in between where some of it is really wavy and has natural curl, but then like half of it is stick straight and hates curling. so it's a battle.
139. Brunette or Blonde?

blonde.
140. Summer or Winter?

Summer. as long at it doesn't get too hot, and there's some summer rain, and lots of beautiful puffy clouds in the sky. you know that sweet spot where it's not humid but it's not dry? that's the spot where I live.
141. Night or Day?

day- from 10am-2pm
142. Favourite month?

may and june
143. Are you a vegetarian?

hell no
144. Dark, milk or white chocolate?

milk chocolate. but white hot chocolate.
145. Tea or Coffee?

I drink neither. but I kind of like herbal tea. I don't get the chance to drink it a lot.
146. Was today a good day?

I'd say so. they've been mixed bags lately.
147. Mars or Snickers?

snickers
148. What’s your favourite quote?

off the top of my head, "get up, dress up, show up and never give up." -Genevive Rhodo
149. Do you believe in ghosts?

yes, but not in the way that most people do. but I'm also scared straight of them. it's like we don't even talk about that here, son.
150. Get the closest book next to you, open it to page 42, what’s the first line on that page?
"They were laughing and talking over a slice of cheesecake, but without me." from Mindy Kaling's "Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (and Other Concerns)

All done! Thanks for taking this journey with me! muah.

102. Do you regret anything from your past?

103. Can you spell well?

very well. in the 6th grade they had to make a new elite group for me and emilee because we were so superior.
104. Do you miss anyone from your past?

yes and no, most of the people I miss who they used to be. the people they are now aren't really who I want in my life right now, they're like strangers. but I miss a lot of the tight knit friendships I had, mostly from my sophomore year. I'd say Mary especially, she was my Slamma Jamma Hella Bella.
105. Ever been to a bonfire party?

kind of? I usually stay inside and eat the cookies when no one is looking. teenagers + fire scare me.
106. Ever broken someone’s heart?
I can't really speak for anyone, because I'm not them so I'm kind of just Nick Jonas-ing here (reference to "What Did I Do to Your Heart" by the Jonas Brothers) but I honestly think I have broken at least 2  hearts and I regret both so much, no one means to hurt the ones they love(d). I mean I even wrote a song about one.

107. Have you ever been on a horse?

my complete and total lack of motivation to do what I really need to.  also this canker sore inside my lip.
110. Have you ever liked someone so much it hurt?

oh yeah. oh yeah. one of the most notable was in the 7th grade, Nick Jonas (wow, two nick jonas references in one post, that hasn't happened since 2009). I liked him so much it made me cry to know that we would never be together. (unless I got John Hughes to direct my life or something)
112. Who was the last person you cried in front of?

my family. tears were literally streaming down my face. I was sobbing. I love my family so much.

Livvy. my family still calls me livvy, but only my family is allowed to. and the Asyeerne's. also Jake used to back in the Olivia + Jake Renaissance era (November 2012-February 2013), at first I was all "how dare you" but then it became endearing and he became one of the select few.

114. Have you ever been out of your province/state?

yes I have. even though sometimes it doesn't feel like it.
115. Do you play the Wii?

not really, I don't have one. but when I do I like playing tennis. and making Mii's of white Michael Jackson.
116. Are you listening to music right now?

not necessarily, but it can get to me when I'm in bed or outside at night.
121. Are you mean?

hahahahaha! what kind of question is that?! hmm. let's just say that I can be, but overall I think I'm pretty nice. I care a lot about other people and their feelings so.

December 20, 2014

whaddya want from me (3/5)

61. Been suspended/expelled? For what?
no I haven't. I feel like I could have been suspended at some point, though.  not like I did anything but I wouldn't have been surprised, ya feel?

62. Been arrested? For what?
hahahahaha yes. yes I have. I never paid a ticket I got for running a stop sign when I was rushing to the movies to see Frozen on time and I didn't show up to court to settle it or go to traffic school so they put a warrant out for my arrest and I got arrested after a cop pulled me over a few months later because my taillight was out. it was awesome.

63. Who are your best friends?
Emilee, Shaylee, Talia & Hannah. and of course my best childhood friend Madison

64. Tell us the story of your first kiss?

hahaha damn. I was at classic skating my freshman year and my boyfriend at the time asked if I'd be mad if he kissed me. I wasn't sixteen yet so I said I'd be mad. but he didn't let that deter his quest, so when ET by Katy Perry came on, he grabbed my face and kissed me real fast when the chorus came on "kiss me! k-k-kiss me!" it was awkward and sweet.
65. Are you hungry right now?

Nah. I just had some whole wheat pita bread so I'm good.
66. Do you like your tumblr friends more than your real friends?

Ha, no. I don't really have any tumblr friends, I'm like that kid sitting alone in the cafeteria that people give the nod to occasionally.
67. Facebook or Twitter?

Twitter all the way. always. my mom ruined facebook for me anyway but I think that happened to everyone
68. Twitter or Tumblr?

Twitter is my first and greatest love. except I haven't been relevant since I graduated high school so that sucks.
69. Are you watching tv right now?

72. What colour are your towels?

green, purple, and blue. they match our shower curtain.
72. How many pillows do you sleep with?
 two
73. Do you sleep with stuffed animals?
one, it's this cute little penguin (his name is Pengu) that my grandma gave me for Christmas one year (to be honest I was little old when I got it, like 13 or 14, but I still loved it. he also doubles as a pretty good third pillow.)

74. How many stuffed animals do you think you have?
um, like now that I use and stuff? I use Pengu, and this penguin pillow pet Emilee sent me last year named Ronaldo I think. I like pillow pets. but total like my sisters and I had when I was a kid and that are in my basement? it's gotta be in the triple digits.

75. Favourite animal?

would it blow your mind if I said it was a penguin?
